Wikipedia, reddit, Craiglist, and many others are blacking out their sites today, Wednesday January 18, 2012, in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), and even more sites are staying open but protesting. SOPA AND PIPA are two bills in the United States legislature designed to stop online piracy and copyright infringement that protestors believe would fundamentally alter the Internet, placing far too much power in the hands of content owners and the government at the expense of everyday users.
