Tech Support Options

With many open source projects, you have only two tech support options: you and your friends. With some larger projects, there might be a mailing list or message board where you can ask others for help. Fortunately, Ubuntu Linux and DansGuardian both offer another option as well: paid support. If you're so inclined, you can pay someone else to take care of all of the details, just like you may do already with your library automation system.

So, here's a quick rundown of some of the support options you have.

Free Support:

• Ubuntu: They have lots of documentation, live chat help, web forums, and mailing lists.
• DansGuardian: a mailing list delivered through Yahoo Groups

Paid Support:

• Ubuntu: You have the option of buying support 24x7, or nine hours-a-day five days-a-week.
• DansGuardian: support is provided for the commercial version of DansGuardian, called SmoothGuardian.
